Description

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest contains over 210,000 acres of federally-protected wilderness areas. Several pristine mountain lakes exist nestled high in the Sky Lakes, Red Buttes, and Kalmiopsis Wilderness areas. Most of these lakes are relatively small and unproductive, however they offer spectacular scenery, the opportunity for solitude, and reliable fishing for pan-sized brook, rainbow, and cutthroat trout. Many anglers find backcountry angling challenging yet highly rewarding. Anglers should check with District employees as stocking has been discontinued in some of these lakes to restore native ecosystems. Camping is restricted to designated areas near the lakes and all Wilderness visitors should follow "Leave No Trace” guidelines.
