Description

In the Northern Minnesota wilderness, in an area where water covers almost as much land as forest is the stunning Lake Vermillion. Hundreds of islands are dispersed among the almost 40,000 acres of water where every day you'll experience the "Lake of the Sunset Glow".

The region has remained largely undeveloped and is definitely a sight worth seeing. Because of its distance from major cities a trip to Lake Vermillion is best done over several days. The most convenient way to do this is with a houseboat rental, all of which come with beds, a kitchen, a grill and a deck. Larger models add luxury amenities. As such you won't need to be hauling camping gear and the space you save can be used instead for fishing supplies to catch some walleye, muskie and more.

The hiking and wildlife viewing at Lake Vermillion is exceptional. Such a large wilderness area creates a haven for species that have been driven out of other places. The larger islands on the water are an opportunity for seeing these creatures in an isolated habitat, while the smaller islands are a chance to make your own.
