Lake Koocanusa

Basics
Location:
Straddling Montana/Canada Border
Size:
46,720 acres
Max. Depth:
370 ft.

Description

In Northern Montana, straddling the United States and Canada is Lake Koocanusa, a long and narrow lake great for boating, camping and fishing.

The sheer size and shape of the lake provide vast options for secluded recreation. One of the many houseboats available for rent make this even easier, opening up the many coves and parts which are inaccessible by car.

One of the more immediate benefits of Lake Koocanusa's layout is the fishing. It is easy to find a spot to set in for west slope cutthroat, kokanee salmon, whitefish, brook trout, rainbow trout (including kamloops) and ling. Some areas may be more frequented by power boats, jet skis and the like, but there are always gentle waters just around the shore.
